Alex Wan for Atlanta City Council District 6

Wan receives highest grade from Committee for a Better Atlanta

Alex Wan, a businessman and civic leader who is seeking the Atlanta City Council District 6 seat, has received the highest rating of Excellent from the Committee for a Better Atlanta. Wan received the highest score among his peers in the District 6 race.

“I am humbled by this recognition,” Wan says. “I am honored to receive this acknowledgment from the CBA, a group of respected members of Atlanta’s business community and civic leaders who recognize the need for thoughtful, business-minded people engaged as leaders in City government.”

The Committee for a Better Atlanta’s decision is based upon written and oral responses from all candidates in the municipal races. The score is based upon eight key areas, including economic development, transportation and leadership abilities. The ranking of candidates – on a four-tier scale – judges the qualifications of all Atlanta city candidates.

Wan’s score of 90 was the highest in the field in District 6. He was the only candidate to receive the coveted “Excellent” rating.  Three other District 6 candidates received the lesser “Well Qualified” rating, one did not participate, and one received a “Not Qualified” rating. (See all the scores here.)

“The rating of ‘Excellent’ is an acknowledgement of what I firmly believe,” says Ken Britt, Wan’s campaign chair and a member of the Human Rights Campaign Board of Directors. “Alex is one of the brightest people that our city has to offer.  The CBA leaders understand the importance of smart strategic investment in continuing to build the infrastructure and services that attract businesses – and new jobs – to our great City, and their rating indicates they know Alex has the ability and experience to accomplish these things.”

Wan is a graduate of Georgia Tech and the Wharton School of Business (MBA – Finance). He is a business owner and founder of For the Kid in All of Us, which distributes toys to socioeconomically disadvantaged children in the Atlanta area through The Toy Party and other events. He has been a homeowner in the city’s Morningside neighborhood for 15 years, and is promoting a platform of responsible economic development and more efficient delivery of city services in his campaign for Atlanta Council.

“I want to thank the members of CBA, and my neighbors and friends here in District 6,” Wan says. “I’m happy they agree that running the city more like a business, while keeping a focus on neighborhood preservation, makes good economic sense.  We share the belief that the City’s economic vitality is critical to our ability to keep growing the City’s tax base and reducing the tax burden on homeowners. We must work hand-in-hand with the business community to address the challenges and to achieve our common goal of making Atlanta a leading international city, while also protecting the things that make Atlanta great – like livable, safe neighborhoods.”
